Still more Idol chatter

May 13, 2009

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

After last night’s performances it was obvious that this was truly anyone’s ball game.  Everyone did really well.  There weren’t any bad performances.  But somehow it was still a shock to see Danny Gokey go home.  He can sing.  Really sing.  That said, Danny is just about the same now as he was when he started.  He was good then, too.  But I haven’t seen tremendous growth or change through the course of the competition.  I am sure this is just the beginning for him, though.  Some record label will snatch him up fast.

Kris Allen, however, has gotten better with each week.  His vocal strength and his stage presence have increased with every performance.  It’s been a cool thing to watch him gain confidence.  In the beginning I found him completely dismissible.  A few weeks ago it became quite clear that he had stepped up and was going to be a contender.  I must admit, however, that I didn’t see him making it quite this far.  I’m not complaining, though.  He’s good and very likable.

Adam…well, he just seems to take up more and more space!  I like that he doesn’t fit the mold of a pop star.  He was built for theatre and theatrics, and I don’t find that to be a fault.  It takes a lot of confidence to pull off the stuff he pulls off.  And he pulls it off with excellence.  I have a lot of admiration for that.  Unlike Katy Perry’s theatrics tonight, which were just weird and not all that excellent at all.

Ryan Seacrest said that out of the 80+ million votes cast last night, less than 1 million separated the top two contestants, which would be Adam and Kris.  That’s pretty remarkable!  And proof that this thing isn’t wrapped up yet.  Anything could happen, even still.

I do have a question for Simon Cowell, however.  What the heck is “a big ding-dong”?  The stuff that guy comes up with…

Well I am still in shock! I really wanted Danny to get to this point! Kris did knock it out of the ball park last night so i knew he could very well make it. Adam is no longer intertaining for me. We (Todd, Hannah, & I ) really thought he was terrible last night. Everything is sounding redundant. I do think he is a really cool guy and very nice, I just have not been able to “feel ” his vibe lately. I will be pulling for KRIS!
