A new beginning

August 24, 2011

Monday was the first day of school in our county.  That means that the youngest Sparkette is officially a freshman in high school.  I wanted to post some photos I snapped before Mr. Sparky took her out for a McD’s breakfast before school that morning, but I can’t seem to figure out how to get them off the camera.  Some setting has been changed and I can’t figure out what it is or what to do about it.  Go figure.

Contrary to all concerns, the Sparkette did not get lost or eaten by upperclassmen.  She is carrying a respectable load of classes, all honors except for one, and one of those honors classes an AP class.  She is excited about her two IT classes and has an appropriate amount of angst and dread over her Personal Fitness class, which she begged me to permit her to take online.

Personal Fitness online.  Anyone else get their brain tweaked just trying to get their head around that concept?

I said no to that proposal, of course.  She should just be glad she doesn’t have to wear the gym suit/PE uniform of the ’70s.  That thing was flippin’ ugly, no way around it.  It was a one-piece contraption.  The top part was short-sleeved and had thin navy blue stripes and the bottom part was solid navy, and it had snaps up the front, if I recall correctly.  It was constructed to look like a shirt and shorts, assuming the person looking was blind in one eye and couldn’t see out the other.  I tried to find a photo to post, but apparently an entire generation was so traumatized by those things that there isn’t a photo one to be found up here on Al Gore’s internets.

Maybe they should reinstate those things.  They did seem to help keep the teenage birth rate down.

Belleville East has uniforms for their physical classes. It looks like Army PT gear.
