No handball, play through

A week ago the youngest Sparkette fell on her wrist while playing soccer.   I encouraged her to ice it and take care of it, but honestly, whenever the drama factor is as high as it got that night, it’s usually nothing to worry about.  But 24 hours later she was still fussing about the pain, and so Mr. Sparky took her into the ER for a little look-see.

At the ER she was x-rayed and examined but nothing definitive was determined.  No break was apparent, but broken growth plates often don’t show up on initial x-rays.  They splinted her wrist and wrapped it and told us that we’d receive a call from the orthopedic clinic after the weekend was over.  Late Tuesday I finally received that call, and tomorrow I will take her back for another examination.

She has consistently complained about the pain level.  The splint seems to put her wrist in a position that actually hurts worse.  There is still a bit of swelling, too, though it’s much better than after the initial injury.  I’m really not sure what is going to come of this.  I really expected her to have improved after a week.

Of course, her injury has not stopped her from playing soccer.  We permitted her to switch the splint for a brace for her games.  After all, the wrist should be a fairly optional piece of anatomy for a soccer game.

We’ll overlook that soccer is how she got the injury in the first place.

My youngest had a bizarre injury last spring-a television FELL on her foot somehow when we were out to dinner with friends-her sister did not want to babysit that night so the whole thing was a bit suspect. She went to the doc the next day after great drama…and she had a hairline fracture in her growth plate after an ortho looked at it..I felt terrible…

She is OBVIOUSLY fine which shows I am ACTUALLY a good Mom-right? LOL

Praying that they find the cause and get her on the mend without it interfering with the soccer playing!
