How do you like me now?

Ever wonder what it means when you “like” a post on a blog?  What about those little stars at the bottom of the post…do they really mean anything?

Well, sorta.  The stars and the “like” button are actually separate features, but they both let me know what sort of blog posts are meaningful to the people who actually take time to read this blog.  Of course, neither feature was available when I first started this blog, so it skews the information a little if I look at the data for “all time” information, plus if  WordPress tracks the likes, I can’t find it.  But it does track the stars.  Folks who have taken the time to click on the little stars to rate a post have declared the following to be their most liked posts:

Turning the key  6 votes

Better than a fish tale   5 votes

Seasons change  5 votes

What was THAT?!?  5 votes

Daughters will love like you do  5 votes

After that there are posts that had four votes, but there are far too many of them to post here, especially since I already posted them once and nobody gets all that jazzed about reruns when a new season is available.

But those stars and likes really only tell a portion of the tale.  Every day people click on posts on this blog that aren’t the most current posting.  Some of them land here via search engine.  Some find the blog and then start poking around randomly.  Others come because someone sent them a link.  But no matter how they found their way here, it’s interesting to note that most of the top-viewed posts are different from the ones that precipitated poking a star or hitting the like button.  My home page (where you can scroll through the stream of posts without actually clicking on one) has the most views, with well over 10,000.  The “Who is Sparky?” page has the next highest amount, at 662.  The spammers love that page in particular.  But after that are the listings for individual posts.  The top five, with the most viewed post listed first, are as follows:

Pressed down, shaken together, running over

Tricks, lies, and phone calls

What was THAT?!?

The bog of eternal stench

Dilemma resolved

I find it interesting that only one of the posts in the first list found its way into the second list.  That post is a darned good story, though, especially when you figure that it really happened.

I do like it when people take the time to rate a post, even if they don’t like it and rate it accordingly.  Though at the end of the day I’m going to write about what I’m going to write about, there are plenty of times I sit here in my chair and have no clue what I’m going to write about, and it’s then that the types of posts the Sparky Nation likes best comes into play.  It helps to know what interests you, inspires you, makes you laugh, makes you think, or whatever else my goofy offerings might evoke in you.

So…rate on, and rate well.  Even if you think it’s worse than cat vomit.

Far surpasses cat vomit! LOL! What you write about is mostly what touches us in our everyday lives…..and so becomes very valuable to the weary-worn! Thank you!
