International Lisa Day deliciousness

January 21, 2014

The Sparkette has been learning to decorate cakes.  For Christmas she received a voucher for cake decorating classes, and she’s already been to two of the four.  She’s always loved to bake, and she’s creative, so this was a no-brainer thing for her.

It wasn’t too much of a surprise that she wanted to make my birthday cake.  However, it wasn’t because she wanted to decorate it.  She was dreaming up classy and elegant flavor options.  I have an incredible chocolate cake recipe, and also a favorite icing. It occurred to her that this combo would be really good with raspberry filling.  So she found a recipe, and she made it.

Let’s just say her instincts were absolutely correct.

Homemade chocolate cake with gravy icing and homemade raspberry filling, all made by THIS GIRL.

Seriously…this cake was something you’d expect to pay a lot of money for at a restaurant.  Crazy good!

So. Good.

So. Good.

I am one blessed Sparky, having a smart girl like that.

You are SO blessed! Love that awesome smile and that cake looks delicious! I wonder if she wants to bake a cake at the end of June? I might just have to hitch hike over that way for a slice.

You can try sweet-talking her. :)

That would probably work better than offering to feed her a famous taco salad with crunchy avocados again! lol

Okay, I just gotta know… what is “gravy” icing?

With Gravy Icing you cook milk and flour together to make a “pudding” that you then beat into butter and sugar and vanilla. The result is silky smooth, fluffy, and much lighter in texture and less sweet in flavor than traditional butter creams, but with far more substance than whipped cream. The stuff is SOOOO good!
