Oh, be careful little mouth what you say
I never cease to be amazed by the power of words. What we say and how we say it can be a total game-changer—sometimes for us, sometimes for someone else.
Words can heal, soothing aches and wounds like warm oil.
Words can also be a devastation of destructive power, a nuclear bomb detonated in the hall closet.
You can probably give examples of both kinds of words. I know I can.
You can probably also give examples of situations or people you avoid because you associate them with words that made you feel lousy, maybe even a very long time ago, but you still remember how awful it felt to feel that feeling.
I’ve heard it reported that it takes nine positive things said to us to counter the power of even one negative thing. I think that number is probably more like thirty-seven. Maybe thirty-eight.
And that’s on a good day.
