Boom boom pow

September 24, 2013

Thunder rumbles outside.  Some people think it’s scary.  Jake the Jerk-Faced Dog thinks it’s terrifying and that he is surely going die.  Twelve pounds of canine drama, that one is.

But I think thunder is wonderful.  It is a little scary, too, but in a wonderful way.

When I was a kid I heard the grown-ups say that thunder was when God and  the angels go bowling.  They also said it was when hot clouds and cold clouds bumped into one another.  And sometimes they said it was the old ‘tater wagon going over the bridge.

That last one was always my favorite.

I know what it’s like to hunker under a little wooden bridge spanning a crick full of minnies and crawdads and listen to a car go rolling overhead.  It does sound a lot like thunder.  But slow it down to an old rickety wagon loaded full of ‘taters pulled by a lumbering tractor?  Now that really sounds like thunder.

And it sounds like home.

I miss thunder and lightening. We rarely get either.

I love them both. We’re getting a lot of rumbling tonight.

I always heard, “God must be rearranging His furniture again!”
